The performance requirements of our products are specified by either European Directives, UNECE Regulations, European Standards (CEN) or International Standards (ISO) according to the product type and application.
1. Wheelchair tie-downs and occupant restraints “WTORS”.
Minimum requirements for WTORS are laid out in ISO 10542 (parts 1-5). All WTORS are required to pass a simulated crash test at 20g/48kph using an 85kg surrogate wheelchair and 75kg ATD occupant. The BraunAbility range of wheelchair tie-down products comply with or exceed the minimum requirements of ISO 10542, with proven systems capable of securing 100kg to 200kg powered wheelchairs.
ISO 10542 compliant WTORS satisfy requirements for European Whole Vehicle Type Approval for Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles under the Special Purpose Category, The European Bus Directive 2001/85/EC, UNECE Regulation 107 and the UK Public Service Vehicles Accessibility Regulations (PSVAR) 2000.
2. ISO 7176 Part 19 – Wheeled Mobility devices for use as seats in motor vehicles.
ISO 7176 Part 19 provides wheelchair manufacturers with minimum design, performance requirements and associated test methods for both manual and powered wheelchairs intended for use as a forward-facing vehicle seat in a road passenger vehicle.
The test method exposes an occupied wheelchair to the worst-case vehicle crash event – a 20g/48kmh crash simulation using ATD occupant of an appropriate mass as stated by the wheelchair manufacturer.
3. Vehicle Seat fixtures
BraunAbility removable seat fixtures allow service providers to achieve a flexible floor plan for maximum vehicle utilisation throughout a working day. The seat fixtures form an integral path for the loads of seatbelt anchorages and are tested following the requirements of UNECE Regulation 14, or Directive 76/115/EC, as amended by 2005/41/EC. Both Directive and Regulation specify seatbelt anchorage load requirements by vehicle category:
M1 Vehicles: Vehicles for the carriage of passengers comprising no more than 8 seats in addition to the driver.
M2 Vehicles: Vehicles for the carriage of passengers comprising more than 8 seats in addition to the driver’s seat and having a maximum mass not exceeding 5 tonnes.
M3 Vehicles: Vehicles used for the carriage of passengers comprising more than 8 seats in addition to the drivers’ seat and having a maximum mass exceeding 5 tonnes.
BraunAbility supplies seatbelts that comply with the design and performance requirements of UNECE Regulation 16 and the Directive 77/541/EC, as amended by Directive 2005/40/EC.
5. Floor and Anchorage Systems
BraunAbility Innotrax bonded floor systems, Low Profile, Surface and Heavy Duty Rail have been used in conjunction with our products in a wide range of vehicle models and types.
When used as a part of a system, BraunAbility floor and rails systems are compliant with the requirements of UNECE Regulation 14 and the Directive 76/115/EC as amended. All our Innotrax and rails meet the M1 level for a single seat, and M2 level for a double seat.
The patented Solo Anchorage System has been rigorously tested as an anchorage device for wheelchair tie-downs and exceeds the requirements of ISO 10542.
